About the Band and the Music

Helen Yee, Nathan Tabor, Jay Gavan, Denis Shebukhov, and their many friends from among Kalamazoo's music scene play familiar tunes from the instrumental jazz tradition of Django Reinhardt and Stéphane Grappelli.  The Birdseed sound transports listeners to the cafes and bistros of 1930s and 1940s Europe, where string bands filled rooms with the excitement of swinging "hot club" jazz.  Today, you will recognize this improvised style with its playful melodies and driving acoustic sound from movie soundtracks, commercials, and public radio stations. 

The Birdseed Salesmen provide the "douce ambiance" for any soirée.
